HEART Waiver Services
On October 1, 2021, the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services submitted an application to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to expand available behavioral health treatment for Medicaid members. This application for the Healing and Ending Addiction Through Recovery and Treatment (HEART) waiver seeks federal authority through an 1115 demonstration to pay for additional community based treatment services as well as expanded inpatient and residential treatment

Provider Announcement: Contingency Management Kick-Off Meeting!
The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) will be hosting a Contingency Management (CM) Kick-Off Meeting for providers.
Date: Wednesday, January 7, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Mountain Time)
Format: Microsoft Teams
The purpose of this meeting is to:
- Introduce the upcoming Contingency Management initiative
- Share anticipated timelines
- Outline what providers can expect next as rulemaking progresses
Formal program requirements, provider eligibility criteria, and training materials will be shared after Contingency Management rules are formally adopted. Information provided during this meeting is for awareness and planning purposes only. This meeting is intended as an initial kick-off only. Additional training and program guidance will be released following formal rule adoption.
